Some advice for my resume?

Apr 7th, 2011 | By admin | Category: Resume Tips

I don’t have very much work experience, just volunteering and some small one day jobs. I want to put these jobs on my resume in my work experience section. But, I do not remember exact dates or any phone numbers. I do have good references but, not relating to the jobs. Will this look bad on my resume?

what where
job title, keywords or company
city, state or zip jobs by job search

  1. No, if you format the resume in a proper manner it is not a big deal. If you can only remember things like “summer 2002-fall 2004″ that is fine so long as you are consistent in how you write it in your resume. If you are specific with one but not with another, then that might look funny and make your resume questionable. The link below takes you to advice about resumes, if interested.

  2. Make up dates look up the phone numbers also use the volunter jsut make good comminents such as quick learner

  3. Yes, you can list your volunteering experience under work experience. if you don’t remember the dates you can call the agencies you did the volunteer work for and ask them. It’s better to do that than ‘make them up’ because the interviewer can (and probably will) call to check if they are interested in hiring you.

Excellent references are not really ‘excellent’ if they are unrelated to work experience. Can’t you get anyone from your previous volunteer or one-day jobs to provide you with a reference? The hiring company is not that interested in the opinions of your friends and family, they would prefer to get the information from someone you worked for, as that is more relevant to verifying your skills and experience.

But don’t worry about it too much – from your questions I assume you are applying for entry-level positions, and many of the candidates will be in the same boat. If you put a little effort into verifying your information, putting your best foot forward, and getting work-related references, you will be in a better position to stand out from the other candidates.

    good luck!
