History graduate looking for transition job?
Apr 1st, 2011 | By admin | Category: Job Search PlanI graduated in May with a BS in History with a minor in Political Science and just finished an internship at a local museum. I didn’t enjoy museum administration so I am planning to go back to school to get my masters to become a teacher or maybe pick up a second bachelor’s in a better field (probably computers).
I’ve been on Career Builder and Monster but don’t have much luck in finding jobs I’d be interested in doing. These are areas I could see myself working in for a few years in this order:
1. Computers (repairs or networking; entry level)
2. Government (archives or research)
3. Insurance agencies with proper training
Are there specific job search sites that would give me better results than sites like Career Builder?
I’d also prefer to stay in the Chicago area. Thanks in advance.
I suggest you to try project payday, simply because you don’t need any money up front and you can start making money within 15 minutes. I average around 3,500 dollars every month with it. Check it out at http://bizurl.net?u=dh
Check with the career services office at your school. And definitely the alumni office to get names of alums who are willing to talk to students and more importantly network. You may get other ideas or job leads.
Surprisingly, most jobs are not found through Career Builder or Monster. But if you prefer the internet try Vault.com
Also consider doing a certificate program at nights in the field you may be interested in (paralegal, computers, etc.) and maybe doing some temp work during the day.
As you know, don’t tell prospective employers that you’re looking for a transition job. The last thing they want is to spend all that time and money training you and know that you may be leaving in a year.
