Any tips for my first Job interview?

Mar 1st, 2010 | By admin | Category: Interview Tips

I’ve got a job interview with Sears tomorrow afternoon. What interview tips can you give me? What’s it like working at Sears? How quick will I know when I’m hired? And what do I say when asked, “Why should we hire you?”
Thanks for the tips; I got the job!

I’m extending the expiration for anybody else with a similar question.

  1. Say something like, you are dependable, reliable, a hard worker, you like working with people, you have a positive attitude, you will get the job done by any means necessary.

  2. wear smart clothes and look smart. and be confident. even if you are not.

  3. Get familiar with the store and what areas or departments they have. You may be asked what department you think you would be best suited to work in and why. If you are knowledgable about tools or lawn equipment or some other area use that to your advantage. As far as the “Why should we hire you” question you could say something about how you are a dedicated person who is eager to learn and work and that you feel that your own skills and abilities are ones that are suited to this particular job. You are willing and very capable. Other questions you may encounter:

What is something you have done in the past that was difficult for you and how did you overcome that?

Have you ever had to deal with a stressful situation? What was it and how did you handle the situation?

Usually in a customer service oriented field they are looking for people who are easy to talk with (friendly and outgoing) and are able to handle angry customers without becoming angry and rude themselves. You should be upbeat and friendly. Smile at the person and make eye contact when talking to them. Make sure you sound happy to be meeting them and sincere when you talk. They want to see how you interact with them as a measure of how you might interact with a customer. Good luck on the interview. Hope you get a job offer.

  4. I heard you would have to pass a wizz quiz, so don’t consume any intoxicants.

    Beyond that, I don’t know

  5. Be honest…tell them you’re a hard worker, you’ll get the job done, and won’t let them down. Tell them you’re outgoing, afterall, this is a position dealing with people. Don’t be shy- use eye contact, and speak clearly. Good luck!
