Teacher for a 17 month old? Where to find?

Feb 25th, 2010 | By admin | Category: Being a Nanny

I am a work from home mom who travels occasionally. Because of my daughters rapid developement and lack of close by help I was going to put an ad out to look for a cerfified teacher or specialist to help my daughter with everyday development. I do what I can (flashcards, read books, but with my demanding work I feel its not enough. I am fortunate to continue working and be at home. Who should I look for? I am seeking someone maybe 3x a week a few hourss a day and would like one on one interactions so day cares are out of question. Babysitters are not what I want either unless they posess skills.

Thanks everyone.

I only ask this because I am also going to have my daughter home schooled so I want to make sure she is used to having someone come to the house.

  1. I would look for a qualified preschool teacher (12 units in early childhood education in California is all that is required). Someone getting their units or has completed and is continuing their education may be looking for a part time job as they are going to school. You will find someone easily by posting at the local junior college. I am a preschool teacher (with 4 years experiance, 40 units so far and continuing) and am on currently on maternity leave and am considering doing home care for another preschool aged child (as you are looking to do but mine would be done in my own home) until my child turns 2 and can attend my school where I am employed. I would love to find a job like what you are offering! As a preschool teacher I love being able to work with children in a home enviroment and be one-on-one (how they learn best at this age in my opinon). Someone with early childhood education will be able to create a curriculum for your child and a good one will be able to do this by being play-based (children learn best this way especially such a young child). Your child will get the stimulation they need at their indiviual learning speed and the attention they deserve as well as posess the skills to work with this age group (you are right, babysitters are not qualified and have no early childhood education, this is crutial in my book). So post away at the junior college and I gurentee you will get responses with enthusiastic young people who would love that opurtunity! It will look good on their future resume too for when they are ready to teach in a preschool setting. Good luck!
